DailyQ #32: How many hours are required to startup?

How many hours did you work a week when you started your company? Troy Hoffman reminisces the intensive hours, with minimal sleep, when the workdays went from 7am to 2am.

For about 6 days a week I operated on 4 to 6 hours of sleep. Almost 7 days a week consisted of long hours in the office for 3-5 years straight. We attended conferences often, events at night, and dropped off marketing materials during the day. We were on the go day and night. That level intensity eventually burned me out after 5 years.

  1. Do you really need to put that much effort in?
  2. Get realistic on the amount of time your startup will demand.
  3. Take care of yourself during the process.

If you don't take care of your health during those crazy startup years, you will crash or get bored. In hindsight, a daily morning routine with healthier meals would have sustained my energy. Sleep is also essential.

Moreover, get coaches early in every area of your business. Don't waste money and time on something you don't understand, paying for consulting will yeild dividends in the long run.

What area of your business do you need to move forward in? Is there an area in your body you're not taking care of? What area do you need a coach or consulting in your company?
